Master of Horror

H.P. Lovecraft was born on August 20th 1890 in Providence Rhode Island, the only child of Winfield and Sarah Lovecraft. His father Winfield who was a travelling salesman of jewelry and precious metals went pyschotic when Lovecraft was three years old and spent the rest of his days in hospital.

Lovecraft and horror fiction are like wolves and the night, they compliment each other perfectly.Lovecrafts writings have influenced numerous movies books and even games. Many modern horror writers including Stephen King would list H.P.Lovecraft as one of their main influences.

Although Lovecraft was relatively unknown when he died his influence can be seen all over horror media. One excample lots of his stories named a very powerful book called the Necronomicon, which we all know turns up in the cult classic evil dead films.

Most of his work concerns the Cthulhu Mythos and he may have been influenced himself by the writer Arthur Machen who's carefully constructed tales spoke of a long ancient evil surfacing in modern times.

In the opening lines of "The Call of Cthulhu" Lovecraft wrote. "The most merciful thing in the world I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but someday the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age".

Makes you think about all the advances in science that they are working on today in biochemistry etc. And as for that particle accelorater they have deep in the ground , That has horror story written all over it dont you think? If you have not sampled any of Lovecrafts work all i can say is you do not know what you are missing. Sitting alone reading Lovecraft sends your mind on a wonderful and terrifying journey.
